Therapy for Women

In Louisiana and Virginia

You’re ready to flourish.

You might think this whole page is unnecessary. Isn’t it mostly women who go to therapy in the first place? Do women — and women specifically — really need more incentive to go to therapy?

Honestly, I think the answer is YES. Yes to all of the above. Yes, we are the ones in therapy, AND yes we are the ones who sometimes need a little more permission to go to therapy. A little more permission to focus on ourselves. To do something for ourselves that feels like it’s just for us.

We’re the fixers, the doers, the achievers. We’ve not only got the answers, but we know just how to package those answers to sound appealing to whoever’s asking (or — yikes — to make them feel like they figured it out all along). Our lives often feel like a balancing act between personal or family goals, professional aspirations, and social expectations. (Clichéd, yes, but clichéd for good reason.)

Dealing with issues that feel like they only impact you — your anxiety, your perfectionism, your self-doubt, your imposter syndrome — can become an afterthought. And forget about spending time in the pursuit of your own well-being or the planning of your future goals. If it’s not currently on fire, it can probably wait… right?

Why Therapy For Women?

If you’re like many of the women I see, the reason you’re seeking therapy is that despite how impressive you look on the outside, the inside feels different. Maybe perfectionism has gotten out of control lately and you can feel burnout breathing down your neck. Your thoughts might have gotten overwhelming, so much so that it feels like they are controlling you when it should be the other way around. You may know exactly what I mean when I describe the thrill of being the one to get it all done, but the burden of it too.

Maybe your ambition — your absolute superpower — feels like a treadmill that’s running a little too fast. You definitely don’t want to get off (and I’m the last one who’d say that was the answer), but you’d like to finally feel like you’re the one at the controls.

Or perhaps it feels like it isn’t you that needs therapy at all, but because your partner/friend/parent/boss won’t go to therapy themselves, you need a place to manage being the only one who will even try.

You may not know where you need to make a change, but you know you’re ready to make it happen NOW. That’s where therapy comes in.

Common Reasons Women Seek Therapy

No two people are working with me on the same issues, but some of the reasons my patients seek therapy include:

Therapy For Women Can Help

If you’re interested in how I do what I do, I use a combination of different modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Positive Psychology in my work with my patients. We start by addressing the issues that brought you to therapy in the first place and work to explore how your thoughts are setting up roadblocks that put you in your own way. You’ll explore the roots of your concerns, develop coping mechanisms, and cultivate practices to manage the pressures you face.

Once that’s done — once you feel better, your symptoms feel manageable, and you feel less like you’re at a 0 and closer to a 5 — we get to level up. That’s when we’ll use evidence-based strategies to get you from 5 to 10 — from fine to thriving. These are the sessions that feel fantastic and set you up for lasting positive change.

And the thing is, at the end of the day, therapy is for you. Will it help you in your relationships? At work? With your family? Yes, absolutely. But I hope, through our work together, you’ll start to do this work for you. Because you deserve to build the life you want. A life that makes you light UP, because it’s truly right for you.

If this sounds like something that could be a good fit for you, let’s get started. Request a consultation today.
